A former mod for The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim is now a stand-alone game. Although the great strengths of the template throws almost completely overboard, The Forgotten City can shine in other areas and even wound Skyrim there.

The Forgotten City is much more than a Skyrim mod

Romans, gods and a city without sins. The Forgotten City sends you into an antique world that is full of mysteries. The fantastic atmosphere and the interesting story make the game one of my personal highlights of the year.

The Forgotten City was originally a mod for The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim. Although the engine is still clearly visible, the developer modern Storyteller proposes a fundamentally different way at the beginning. The huge open world falls away and is replaced by a beautiful, but also small Roman city , which is not so harmonious, as it seems.

Even if there is not a single crime throughout the city, people live in constant fear. For one of them should commit a sin, the golden rule is broken and a mysterious God transforms guilty like innocent in Golden Statues . Although the streets are already lined with former victims of this rule, a new sin is now imminent. It is your task to find the perpetrator and avert the threatening mischief.

Less is sometimes more

The Forgotten City proves that a good game does not necessarily need a huge open world . The city is manageable and there are only a few suspects. The well-written dialogues together with the perfect synchronization ensure that you keep the residents immediately in mind and can not remember their problems and secrets. Even if there are German subtitles, the game currently offers only one English language output.

At the same time tells the city itself a story . There are many hints to discover that tell you more about history in the game and also about life in the old Rome. The world is small, but feels all the more alive.
